Ask ModaI already use a bond-building shampoo from another brand. Is Nº.4 actually different?
Yes — OLAPLEX's patented Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate technology is the original bond-building active. It reconnects broken disulfide bonds inside the hair cortex, not just on the surface. The OLAPLEX system is built on this active working cumulatively across every step.
Nº.4 doesn't lather much. Is it still cleaning my hair properly?
Yes — Nº.4 is a concentrated formula that lathers less than a high-surfactant shampoo, but cleans thoroughly. If lather is low, it often means the hair has significant buildup — use a second application or follow up occasionally with Nº.4C to reset.
Can I use Nº.4 if I don't colour my hair?
Yes — Nº.4 is appropriate for all hair types, colour-treated or not. Bond damage occurs from heat styling, chemical processing, and environmental exposure as well as colour. Any client who heat-styles regularly benefits from ongoing bond care.
How much Nº.4 should I use per wash?
Yes — less than a standard shampoo. Nº.4 is highly concentrated; a 5-cent coin-sized amount for short-medium hair, slightly more for longer or thicker hair. Over-dispensing is the most common way clients go through bottles faster than they should.
Do I need to use all the OLAPLEX numbered products, or can I just use Nº.4 and Nº.5?
No — Nº.4 and Nº.5 alone is a valid starting routine and the most common entry point. Adding Nº.3 or Nº.3PLUS weekly gives you the deeper pre-wash repair step. Adding Nº.6 or Nº.5L gives you leave-in protection. The system is designed to be built gradually.
