Sulphate-free, colour-safe, and formulated with OLAPLEX Bond Building Technology so that every wash day is also contributing to the cumulative bond repair the system delivers. It is the shampoo that makes the rest of the OLAPLEX routine work consistently — clean hair allows Nº.3 to penetrate more deeply, Nº.5 to condition more evenly, and Nº.8 to deliver its mask result on a properly prepared surface.

Yes — OLAPLEX's patented Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate technology is the original bond-building active. It reconnects broken disulfide bonds inside the hair cortex, not just on the surface. The OLAPLEX system is built on this active working cumulatively across every step.
Yes — Nº.4 is a concentrated formula that lathers less than a high-surfactant shampoo, but cleans thoroughly. If lather is low, it often means the hair has significant buildup — use a second application or follow up occasionally with Nº.4C to reset.
Yes — Nº.4 is appropriate for all hair types, colour-treated or not. Bond damage occurs from heat styling, chemical processing, and environmental exposure as well as colour. Any client who heat-styles regularly benefits from ongoing bond care.
Yes — less than a standard shampoo. Nº.4 is highly concentrated; a 5-cent coin-sized amount for short-medium hair, slightly more for longer or thicker hair. Over-dispensing is the most common way clients go through bottles faster than they should.
No — Nº.4 and Nº.5 alone is a valid starting routine and the most common entry point. Adding Nº.3 or Nº.3PLUS weekly gives you the deeper pre-wash repair step. Adding Nº.6 or Nº.5L gives you leave-in protection. The system is designed to be built gradually.
